I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter of 9th. June enclosing paraphrases of telegrams of 7th. June from The Commder-in-Chief, Singapore, to The Commodore of Hongkong and the report from Singapore on the vital requirements at that
port.
In view of the urgency of the query raised in
the telegrang it was dealt with by my Committee at once and we bag 4
to point out that:-

All the vessels of the Indo-hina fleet are already
under Covernment control and that some 47,000 tons out of 77,000 tons of their fleet are directly on aged in
Admiralty work.
The whole of the original stormers of this Top-ny have already been removed from the Calcutta Line by
Government requisition.
The next most suitable ships of the Company's Pleat, namely:- "ilopsang", "Yatsking", "Yooshing","Choygang", "Chungang" were placed upon the line to keep up the connection but we were requisitioned for the purpose of carrying coal from Calcutta to Bombuy.
The Indo-Chine Company state that they have no other suitable tonnage for the trade in question.
aving regard to these circumstances the Courvittae recomand that consideration should be given to the possibility of returning the "B" class stemmers (ng enumerated in class 3) to
ilon. kr. A. G. M. Fletcher,
Colonial Secretary,
Hongkong
